ORI — the app and ORI Brain · Last updated: August 13, 2026

The short version: ORI is self-hosted. Your assistant — its conversations, tasks, and memories — runs and stays on your own computer, on a model API key you provide. We do not operate servers that store your content, and no one else holds a copy of you.

How ORI is built

ORI comes in two parts: the ORI app on your phone, and ORI Brain, an engine you install on your own computer. The app is a client: everything you say to ORI, and everything it does for you, is processed by your own ORI Brain on your own machine. This architecture is why most of your data never reaches us — it doesn't need to.

What stays on your devices

What travels between your phone and your computer

The app and your ORI Brain talk over an end-to-end encrypted channel (a Noise-protocol secure channel established when you pair by QR code). When a direct connection is not possible, encrypted traffic is forwarded through a relay endpoint. The relay forwards ciphertext; it cannot read your content and does not keep it.

Third-party model providers

ORI Brain performs AI inference using the model provider you configure, with your own API key (for example OpenAI, Anthropic, or a compatible provider). Content needed for a task — such as your request and relevant context — is sent by your Brain directly to that provider under your account, governed by that provider's terms and privacy policy. Choosing the provider, and the key, is in your hands.
